Food Review: Chocolate Croissant by 7-Eleven
I love pastries, my favorites are blueberry danish, whole grain bagels and muffins. So you may find it odd that the first pastry or food in this new food review series is a croissant. You may also stop reading at this point once you recall that the croissant I’m doing a quick review about is sold at 7-Eleven. Yes, the world-famous 24/7 convenience store. If that has not turned you away yet, let’s continue.
7-Eleven has leveled up their game in terms of widening their offerings instead of just the usual grocery items and drinks. Apart from on-the-go microwave meals, they’re now offering a choice selection of pastries that’s a class above their other bread-based products. Think of BreadTalk or The French Baker kind of pastry.
The other night, I decided to give it a try and got two of their chocolate croissants.
Square-shaped, unlike the traditional croissant which is curved, the pastry looks enticing enough which means that whoever 7-Eleven tapped as supplier/baker for their premium pastry definitely knows their stuff. The glaze has a good shine overall. The thin chocolate stripes give it a nice cover and accent.
Biting into the croissant is a delight. It’s soft and has a nice delicateness that indicates it was baked professionally. Inside the croissant is a slice of dark chocolate that has a premium taste. Quite surprised for something that came from 7-Eleven. The strength of the chocolate blends well with the lightness of the bread. This croissant would go well with your coffee or chocolate drink. Black tea in my case and it was a good combo. Something that will definitely warm up your mood whether you’re at the office or at home. Heck, you could even have it at the store as they also offer some premium brewed coffee.
At Php39.00 a piece, it’s priced reasonably compared to other croissants at other pastry shops. Overall, I’d give it 4 out of 5. So the next time you feel like going for some fancy pastry and 7-Eleven the nearest or only option, the chocolate croissant would be a good option.
